POSITION SPECIFICS

The Women's Health and Exercise Laboratories at Penn State

University, under the co-direction of Dr. Mary Jane De Souza and Dr. Nancy Williams is seeking a postdoctoral scholar with skills in the execution of human clinical research and randomized clinical trials to lead a study on perimenopausal bone health.

The Women's Health and Exercise Laboratories is in the Penn State College of Health and Human Development, Department of Kinesiology. This post-doctoral candidate will work on a project funded by the USDA, that will focus on the attenuation of bone loss during late perimenopause and early menopause.

The position requires a background in the execution of human clinical research, to include 1) the managing and writing of Institutional Review Board Human Study requirements and to manage all required modifications to accommodate study design approvals, protocol applications and modification issues related to the experimental protocols, 2) oversee and lead the study and function as the coordinator of the study, to include working with a Clinical Research Center to manage nursing visits and the day to day execution of study visits in the laboratory, 3) manage data base organization, data entry and data analyses, and as such, have good experience to run longitudinal statistical analyses, 4) manage the day to day study visits with all study participants, 5) drafting of study reports, 6) managing adverse study event logs, and 7) oversee and work with the laboratory technician working on the study. The applicant will be expected to be involved in all stages of experimental design and analysis, as well as scientific reporting, and will receive mentorship in these skills as well as grantsmanship. The ideal candidate will hold an earned Ph.D. degree in Kinesiology, Physiology, or a related field, preferably with experience in women's health, particularly related to mid-life and menopause physiology, and bone health and osteoporosis. A track record of successful research in the fields of mid-life and menopause physiology and bone health and osteoporosis fields is preferred, and excellent communication skills are essential. The successful candidate must have completed all Ph.D. degree requirements by the appointment date and have successfully engaged in publication of manuscripts. Attention to detail and the capacity to multi-task and be a part of team is required.

This is a limited term appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire, with an excellent possibility of renewal.
