　　The Department of Environmental Toxicology (Utox) invites applications for a

　　Postdoctoral Position in Cell Biology in the context of the 3Rs.

　　A strong-hold of our research is the advancement of concepts, experimental and computational approaches that provide impetus for using fish cell lines in the environmental risk assessment of chemicals. One aim of this research is to reduce or even replace chemical testing with fish, as demonstrated, for example, by the RTgill-W1 cell line assay https://www.eawag.ch/en/department/utox/projects/predicting-acute-fish-toxicity-using-in-vitro-models/ Yet, the routine culture of fish cell lines still relies on fetal calf serum as an undefined mixture of factors allowing the cells to proliferate. To eliminate the need of this animal-derived component for fish cell culture, we propose to identify essential nutritional factors for fish cell proliferation in order to develop a serum- and animal-component free medium for fish cells.

The period of appointment for the Postdoctoral researcher is 24 months.
