  About the role

  This role presents a fantastic opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to undertake ground breaking research in Learning and Memory focused on mechanisms of context fear learning and memory modulation within the Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM).

  The research will specifically focus formation/consolidation, extinction, updating and reconsolidation of context fear memory as well as the molecular underpinnings, neural circuits and computations that occur to achieve these effects.

  You will be willing and able to work with mice and rodents in a number of paradigms, including, but not limited to, monitoring and sacrificing mice, complex behavioural paradigms such as context fear conditioning, surgical techniques such as stereotaxic surgeries and intracerebral cannulation survival surgeries. Other aspects of the work will include confocal and two-photon microscope imaging of cells and synapses, in vivo calcium imaging and optogenetic and chemogenetic techniques to establish causal links between behavioural and cellular alterations and memory and behaviour.

  About you

  To be successful in securing this role you will have:

  ·         a PhD in Neuroscience or a related discipline

  ·         extensive experience in conception, design and performance of neuroscience research, specifically context fear conditioning, stereotaxic surgery and intracerebral infusions

  ·         strong experience in optogenetics, chemogenetics, microscopy, and/or in vivo calcium imaging

  ·         experience in writing ethics applications, statements/reports for funding bodies and manuscripts for scientific journals

  ·         experience co-supervising and managing students and research assistants

  ·         project management experience

  ·         knowledge of formation/consolidation, extinction, updating and reconsolidation of context fear memory as well as the molecular underpinnings, neural circuits and computations that occur to achieve these effects is desirable,

  Remuneration & Benefits

  Base Salary Range: $ 78,170 to $ 95,206 pa AUD (Level A)

  This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

  This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed termbasis for three years.
