Position Highlights
The School of Mining Engineering and Mineral Resources is recruiting for a postdoctoral research associate candidate.
The postdoctoral researcher will help (1) help develop and test methods of extracting and concentrating germanium and other trace metals from aqueous solutions; (2) help design of scaled-up extraction systems based on test results; (3) aid in chemical analysis and identification of relevant metal and sulfur species in solutions from mining and hydrometallurgical circuits.
This position is subject to federal ITAR/EAR regulations. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and test chemical methods for extracting, precipitating, and upgrading trace metals in aqueous solutions.
Help optimize and scale up extraction, precipitation, and concentration systems for trace metals in hydrometallurgical solutions.
Assist with chemical analysis and identification of metal and sulfur species in mine solutions, with additional experimental work as needed.
Aid in supervising and guiding chemistry-related research activities by graduate and undergraduate students.
Lead or assist in publishing and presenting results and in writing proposals.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph. D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, hydrometallurgy, or a closely related field is required upon hire.
Federal regulations require that the incumbent be a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, or have another protected status under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) to be ITAR/EAR compliant.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with chemical reaction system design and scale-up is preferred.
Experience with hydrometallurgical operations in mining is preferred.
Familiarity with ICP methods and techniques is preferred.
