Dr. Xiaolei Tang's laboratory at Long Island University is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for an open Postdoctoral Fellow position focused on the study of regulatory T cells. We welcome applications from individuals with a strong research background and a passion for advancing immunology research.

The incumbent will investigate the role of regulatory T cells in treating autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease, using animal models and human samples. He/she will not only conduct basic research but also gain industry experience. The fellow will primarily work in the Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine of Long Island University, a newly established veterinary medical school.

Our newly renovated research laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art instruments essential for daily research activities, including a Cell Culture Biosafety Cabinet, CO2 Incubator, Flow Cytometer, ImmunoSpot Analyzer, Freeze Lyophilizer, Nanoparticle Analyzer, Confocal Microscope, and Gas Chromatography. Key Responsibilities

Cell Culture

Maintain cell culture for primary cells and cell lines.

Perform assays to evaluate cell functions such as proliferation, cytokine secretion, apoptosis, and differentiation.

Flow Cytometer

Perform various analyses using flow cytometers, such as cell subset and cycle analyses.

Molecular Biology

Isolate DNA and RNA.

Perform agarose gel electrophoresis, Cloning, PCR, real-time RT-qPCR, ChIP, ChIPSeq.

Knockdown genes.

Overexpress genes.

Biochemistry

Isolate and quantify proteins.

Perform SDS-PAGE, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, in vitro and in vivo biochemical assays.

Immunohistochemistry

Prepare paraffin-embedded and cryosections.

Perform histology, H&E staining, and immunohistochemistry staining.

Microscopy

Analyze images using bright field, fluorescence, and confocal microscopes.

Spectroscopy

Use UV-Vis spectroscopy and spectrophotometry to quantify DNA, RNA, and protein.

Bioinformatics

Design primers.

Perform sequence alignment.

Bulk RNA-seq and scRNA-seq.

Analyze gene sequencing data using machine-learning techniques.

Small Animal Handling

Breed and maintain mouse colonies.

Genotype for knockout and transgenic mouse models.

Perform animal procedures such as isolation of intestinal crypts, intravenous/intraperitoneal/subcutaneous injections, necropsy and tissue collection, and immunohistochemistry of tissue sections.

Perform luciferase imaging of live animals.

Mentoring

Mentor undergraduate, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Master's, and PhD students.

Publishing

Gather and interpret experimental data and prepare reports and manuscripts.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph. D. in natural science or a health-related field from a college or university of recognized standing. Background in immunology training is preferred.

One year of related experience is required.

Demonstrate excellent organizational skills

Willing to work on multiple projects.

Work effectively with other laboratory members.

Willing to work effectively with other faculty, staff, and administrators as necessary.

Demonstrates the ability to independently carry out significant projects critical to the university and community.

Will have a solid and consistent publication record in tissue repair and/or immunology.
