The Amunts Lab at the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation is now recruiting Associate Investigators/Assistant Investigators, Postdoctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, and Laboratory Managers.

线粒体是细胞能量转换的核心,其精密功能与其复杂的内部结构密不可分。线粒体内膜折叠成嵴,为氧化磷酸化等的大分子复合物提供了动态子组织平台。尽管冷冻电镜的革命性进展已提供了体外纯化的呼吸链复合物的原子级分辨率视图,但一个根本问题依然悬而未决:这些分子机器在天然膜环境中是如何被组织、调控并发生功能性重塑的?我们仍然缺乏对这些复合物的纳米尺度排列和精确构象动态如何决定细胞器功能,以及功能失调下它们如何导致细胞衰退的机制性理解。

Mitochondria are central to the cellular architects of cellular energy conversion, and their function is linked to their intricate internal structure. The inner mitochondrial membrane is folded into cristae, dynamic subcompartments that organize the oxidative phosphorylation. Advances in Cryo-EM have provided atomic views of isolated respiratory complexes, yet a fundamental question remains unresolved: how these machines are organized, regulated, and remodeled within native membranes. We lack a mechanistic understanding of how the nanoscale arrangement and conformational dynamics within cristae dictate organelle function and how their disruption contributes to cellular decline.

Amunts博士团队旨在打破细胞原位结构研究的分辨率极限。团队目标是在原位、以更高分辨率解析线粒体能量转换系统,并捕获其在不同功能状态下的结构。我们的核心假设为,衰老与疾病中的线粒体功能的丧失直接由超分子复合物的解体和特定功能关键构象状态的缺失所决定,而这些结构特征只能在原位捕获。团队进一步提出假说:嵴的形成本身,正是由这些能量转换复合体按顺序组装成特定的寡聚阵列的过程所驱动并协调的。

Amunts Lab aims to overcome this limitation by resolving mitochondrial energy-converting complexes in-situ and at higher resolution across defined functional states. Our central hypothesis is that the mitochondrial dysfunction in aging and disease is driven by the disassembly of supramolecular complexes and the loss of specific, functionally critical conformational states that are only observable in their native cellular context. We further hypothesize that cristae formation is orchestrated through ordered assembly of these complexes into defined oligomeric arrays.

Alexey Amunts博士于2026年1月加入深圳医学科学院,任生物构造与互作研究所资深研究员。2015年,Amunts 博士在斯德哥尔摩大学建立独立的课题组,并获终身副教授职位。Amunts团队结合实验与计算研究方法,在分子和细胞层面上研究蛋白质合成与能量转化的机制,并探索这些过程在自然选择和人类疾病的演变。此外,Amunts 博士主导了瑞典国家冷冻电镜设施的创立。2024年,Amunts 博士在西湖大学进行学术休假期间,并受聘为华中农业大学与山东大学荣誉讲席教授。Amunts 博士任马克斯·普朗克分子生理学研究所的洪堡学者,兼任明斯特大学研究组组长。

Dr. Alexey Amunts joined the Institute of Bio-Architecture and Bio-Interaction (IBABI) in Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation in January 2026.  In 2015, Dr. Amunts established an independent research group at Stockholm University, where he became a tenured Associate Professor. His team investigates the molecular mechanisms of bioenergetics and protein synthesis, combining experimental and computational approaches to study energy conversion from the molecular to the cellular level, and how these processes are shaped by evolution and human disease. Dr. Amunts also played a leading role in founding the Swedish National Cryo-EM Facility. In 2024, he took a sabbatical at Westlake University, and was appointed Honorary Chair Professor at Huazhong Agricultural University and Shandong University. He is a Humboldt Scholar at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund and serves as a group leader at the University of Münster.

3.协助指导学生。

Assist in supervising and mentoring students.

Requirements

1.在国内外已取得结构生物学博士学位,具有结构生物学背景;

Hold a Ph.D. degree in structural biology;

2.在本专业领域发表或即将发表研究论文,具有独立开展科研工作的能力;

Have published or are about to publish research papers in relevant academic fields, and possess the ability to carry out independent research;

3.具有良好的英文文献阅读和写作能力;

Have good command of English for reading and academic writing;

4.具有良好沟通能力和团队协作能力、优良学术道德、强烈探索兴趣。

Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, high academic integrity, a rigorous scientific attitude, and strong research motivation.
