Job Summary

The Physics Department in the College of Science, at the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful candidate will work with faculty in the UTA High Energy Physics group on the development of novel detector technologies and instrumentation concepts for future particle physics experiments. Research areas may include new and emerging quantum sensors based on nitrogen-vacancy centers, development of novel readout electronics and readout systems, and exploratory detector concepts that advance blue-sky instrumentation R&D for high energy physics. The position will provide opportunities to contribute to detector design, laboratory measurements, data analysis, prototype development, publications, and proposal development, while working collaboratively with faculty, students, and external research partners.

CBC Requirement

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct research in high energy physics instrumentation and detector development, including the design, construction, testing, and characterization of novel detector systems and sensor technologies.

Develop, align, operate, and maintain optical systems for laboratory-based detector measurements, which may include lasers, optical cryostats, microscopes, photodetectors, filters, lenses, optical mounts, and related instrumentation.

Construct, integrate, troubleshoot, and maintain experimental systems, including vacuum, cryogenic, optical, electronic, data acquisition, and detector readout systems.

Contribute to the development and testing of quantum sensor platforms, including systems based on nitrogen-vacancy centers and related emerging technologies for high energy physics applications.

Develop and use simulations, models, and analysis frameworks to support detector design, performance characterization, and interpretation of experimental results.

Prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at conferences, workshops, and collaboration meetings.

Mentor and train graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques, data analysis, simulation tools, safe equipment operation, and research best practices.

Work collaboratively with faculty, students, technical staff, and external collaborators to advance project milestones and contribute to a productive research environment.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related science or engineering field by the start date of the appointment.

Experience with experimental research in high energy physics instrumentation, detector development, optics, electronics, quantum sensing, cryogenic systems, or a closely related area.

Experience with data analysis, scientific programming, or simulation tools.

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and communicate results through publications, presentations, or technical documentation.

Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and research collaborators.
