Job Details

A postdoctoral position is available for investigating the physical mechanisms of ultrafast magnetization dynamics in functional magnetic multilayers, including those used in next-generation magnetic storage.

The project focuses on uncovering how magnetization reversal is governed by a time-dependent effective field, Heff(t), which dynamically evolves under non-equilibrium conditions following ultrafast excitation. In particular, the successful candidate will explore the decoupled dynamics of magnetization M(t) and coercivity Hc(t), aiming to establish a new framework for ultrafast magnetoengineering beyond conventional temperature-driven models.

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct time-resolved measurements (e.g., pump–probe MOKE) on magnetic thin films and multilayers, and work closely with modeling teams to translate experimental findings into effective field descriptions suitable for simulation.

This research environment offers extensive facilities for thin film fabrication, microfabrication, and advanced magnetic characterization. In addition, strong collaborations within NIMS and with external partners enable cutting-edge interdisciplinary research.

Candidates with a strong interest in ultrafast spin dynamics, light–matter interaction, and non-equilibrium phenomena in magnetic systems are particularly encouraged to apply.
