PREP Research Associate
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, thus requires that such institutions must be the recipient of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Research Title:
Protein Engineer, Protein Sequence Function Measurements
The work will entail:
The candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research projects aimed at collecting massive protein fitness measurements in service of developing a new generation of predictive models linking sequence to function.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Conduct innovative research in developing large-scale measurements of protein sequence-function relationships.
Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Provide program management support for multi-institute collaborations and scheduling of automated experiments.
Write and publish manuscripts for peer-reviewed and open-science mediums.
Present findings at conferences and institutional meetings.
Qualifications
PhD in Biology, Protein Engineering, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
Experience working with E. coli and skilled in molecular biology techniques
Experience characterizing protein function and/or biophysical properties.
Excitement for interdisciplinary field-building efforts, particularly within data-driven biology.
