Postdoctoral Research Scientist

The Wan Lab at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the area of cardiovascular biology and imaging to study the molecular mechanisms of and cellular electrophysiology of cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Preference for candidates that have demonstrated experience imaging, engineering and at least some understanding of cardiac electrophysiology.

Recent PhD graduates (or equivalents) with trainings in any field of biology are welcome to apply. Candidates with experience in cardiovascular research and engineering will be given preference. The qualified candidates are expected to be self-motivated and team-oriented. Columbia University provides officers with excellent work environment and the positions are available for two to four years.

Required Skills

-Perform independent investigative procedures and operating a variety of imaging scientific equipment such as echocardiography

-Prepare figures, collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data; perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs, reports and manuscript. May use software applications to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and test reports.

-Configure and operate laboratory apparatus and instruments; read and record instrument data; tabulate data; keep laboratory records.

-Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.

-Read and interpret scientific manuscripts

-Ability to program in Matlab and/or Python

Required Experience

- MD or PhD in biology or relevant field of science or technology required.

- Generally experienced in job duties and in the principles and practices associated with those duties with an understanding of the underlying scientific principles.

- Ability to draft routine reports and keep accurate records of work performed.

- Actively seeks opportunities to increase skills and expertise.

- Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction.

- Able to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques.
