Position Summary:
The University of Georgia invites applications for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow to support zooarchaeological analysis and collections management initiatives on Navy collections curated at the Laboratory of Archaeology. This 18-month, full-time position will be housed within the Laboratory of Archaeology and will collaborate closely with the Georgia Museum of Natural History and Navy cultural resource staff.
The Fellow’s primary responsibilities will be to conduct zooarchaeological analysis, rehabilitation of zooarchaeological collections, database entry of zooarchaeological collections, and report preparation for U.S Navy collections. This position will also assist in processing shell, soil, and botanical samples and rehousing those samples. This will also include measuring of oyster and other shell analysis to ensure appropriate information is collected from all samples. Additional duties include supervising laboratory and field technicians. Other duties as assigned.
Ideal candidates will have experience in zooarchaeological and archaeological curation and collections in Eastern North America, but candidates with relevant experience from other regions are encouraged to apply.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:
Experience in zooarchaeological and archaeological curation and collections in Eastern North America
Experience with curation and collections management
Experience with report writing
Supervisory experience (e.g., graduate student mentoring or field project management)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :
Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology at time of appointment
Demonstrated proficiency in ArcGIS
Demonstrated experience in zooarchaeological classification and analysis
Familiarity with curation and collections management

Primary work location: Athens, GA (UGA Laboratory of Archaeology)
Sitting at a desk for long periods of time and working at a computer.
