Postdoctoral Position
In a pioneering international initiative, Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College established Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar (WCM-Q) in 2001 through a unique partnership with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. WCM-Q seeks candidates for a postdoctoral associate position in Neuroscience and Metabolism.
The Padamsey lab invites applications for a postdoctoral position to study the impact of nutritional state on brain function and brain energy use. For our investigations, we use cutting-edge techniques—including multiphoton imaging, electrophysiology, and oxygen sensing—to measure neuronal activity and ATP consumption, both in vitro (primary neuronal cultures and brain slices) and in vivo (awake, freely moving mice). These experimental approaches are integrated with behavioural studies, large-scale data analysis, biophysical modelling, multi-omic profiling, and collaborative human fMRI studies to build a comprehensive understanding of brain energy metabolism and its dysregulation in disease. The overarching aim of the lab is to understand the cellular and molecular basis of cognitive impairment in obesity and type 2 diabetes, and to identify new therapeutic targets to improve brain function in metabolic and neurological disease.
Career development is important to us, and so it is not expected that the candidate will have mastery of the above techniques as relevant training will be provided. However, it is essential that the candidate has a background in neuroscience and has skills either in vitro (cell culture or brain slices) or in vivo (any animal model) research. Preference will be given to candidates with experience using electrophysiology or imaging-based techniques.
More details about our research are available at https://vivo.weill.cornell.edu/display/cwid-zap4003
