Postdoctoral Position in Membrane Protein Structural Biology and Physiology
Date Posted: Posted on 3 June 2025
Location: United States (US)
Case Western Reserve University
The laboratory of Dr. Nami Tajima at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the molecular mechanisms of ligand-gated ion channel signaling complexes. We seek a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual with expertise in electrophysiology, structural biology, or related fields.
Research Focus
Our lab is broadly interested in understanding:
The regulatory mechanisms of ion channels involved in fundamental brain function and neurological disorders.
The signaling networks and protein-protein interactions that govern synaptic transmission.
Structure-based drug discovery targeting ion channel complexes.
We employ a multidisciplinary approach that integrates Cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, electrophysiology, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics.
Our lab has full access to state-of-the-art structural biology facilities, including a Glacios equipped with Seletrix Energy filter and Falcon IV DED camera,Titan Krios with BioQuantum K3, and Volta Phase Plate, Aquilos II Cryo-FIB with CLEM system, and Tecnai T12&TF20.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. obtained within the past three years in a relevant field such as structural biology, biophysics, neuroscience, or molecular biology. A strong publication record and prior experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
Electrophysiology
Biochemistry or protein purification
Cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography
Neuroscience or cell biology
Mass spectrometry
In vitro and in vivo fluorescence imaging
How to Apply
Interested applicants should send the following materials to Dr. Nami Tajima at [Please click the Apply button for the link or address]: (1) a cover letter describing research interests and career goals, (2) a current CV, and (3) contact information for 2–3 references.
We look forward to hearing from passionate researchers eager to explore the structure and function of ion channels in the brain.
