Duties/Responsibilities

Follow available protocols for purification and isolation of plant and microbial polysaccharides by extraction and chromatography. Characterization and structure determination of polysaccharides and glycolipids by NMR.

Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities

Derivatization of charbohydrates for glycosyl composition and linkage analysis by GC-MS.

Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities

Development of new NMR methods for analysis of mixture polypeptides in pharmaceutical products.

Interpretation of NMR data and report writing.Ordering chemicals and consumables for the experiments and as needed for analytical service lab.

The Analytical Service and Training Laboratory (ASTL) at the University of Georgia's Complex Carbohydrate Research Center is seeking an experienced and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. Our work involves structural characterization of glycoproteins, glycolipids and polysaccharides from plant, bacteria and animal sources using a combination of techniques including mass spectrometry, NMR, SPR and HPLC. This position will involve collaborative analytical studies on polysaccharides and glycoproteins by MS and NMR methods. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientist from universities, research institutes and industry for the structural characterization complex carbohydrates. The ASTL at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center has outstanding resources for structural studies and is equipped with a Eclipse LTQ-NSI-MS, Fusion LTQ- NSI-MS, Elite-LTQ ESI-MS, 5800 MALDI-TOF-TOF, Brukerautoflex MALDI-MS mass spectrometers, GC-MS, CE , SPR , Py-MBMS and several HPLC, GC-MS instruments. The high-field NMR spectroscopy at the CCRC includes 900 MHz, 800 MHz, three 600 MHz and a 500 MHz spectrometers. These spectrometers are equipped with a variety of probes including a HRMAS probe for solid state analysis and several H-C/H-N cryoprobes and HCN cryoprobes dedicated to biomolecular NMR applications.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

• PhD with strong motivation and a background in chemistry, biology or biochemistry or related disciplines. • Minimum of two years of experience in purification of polysaccharides/glycoproteins and their subsequent analysis by either MS or 1D and 2D NMR.
