  劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室植物生物学博士后招聘

Plant Biology Postdoctoral Scholar – 89950

Organization: EB-Environ Genomics & Systems Bio

Berkeley Lab’s Environmental Genomics & Systems Biology Division (https://biosciences.lbl.gov/divisions/egsb/) has an exciting position open for a Postdoctoral Scholar. In this role, the successful candidate will work as part of diverse project teams to perform mass spectrometry-based metabolomic analysis to understand viral reprogramming of microbial cells.

Microbial metabolic outputs dictate ecosystem-level biogeochemical processes. While some microbial model systems are beginning to be characterized at the ‘metabolite’ level, even in soils, a virus-infected microbial cell – the ‘virocell’ – is fundamentally reprogrammed metabolically. This reprogramming occurs as the virus takes over and redirects the host metabolism towards the production of progeny virions, and this has been the focus of model system work to mechanistically understand mechanisms of infection efficiency. Come join us to work on this exciting project!

  What You Will Do:

  • Develop and apply innovative mass spectrometry-based metabolite profiling approaches to study the viral reprogramming of microbial cells.

  • Characterize the metabolic effects of phage on their hosts using mass spectrometry-based metabolite profiling.

  • Work with the project team to integrate metabolomics data with other data types (e.g. transcriptomics).

  • Analyze and integrate results.

  • Publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at seminars and conferences.

  • Collaborate with other members of the program project research team both internal and external to Berkeley Lab and develop new collaborations as appropriate to further the scientific goals of the Program.

  What Is Required:

  • Ph.D. within the last three years in Plant Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Environmental Microbiology or related field.

  • Strong background in analytical instrumentation, preferably mass spectrometry.

  • Strong background in microbial physiology and metabolism.

  • Experience using sterile techniques for microbial cultures.

  • Proven ability to perform independent research and organize data for publication and presentations.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with technical and scientific staff.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ingenuity in dealing with complex problems.

  • Demonstrated strength and efficiency in technical writing.

  • Strong publication record.

  Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • LC/MS/MS experience.

  • Training in soil science.

  • Experience studying phage.

  • Programming experience (e.g. python).

  • Strong track record in developing innovative experimental approaches.

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.

  Notes:

  • This is a full time, 2 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

  • M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.

  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

  • Work will be primarily performed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
