Resolution Mass Spectrometry**

The Toxicological Centre of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is the coordinator of the Centre of Excellence Exposome of the University of Antwerp. It has an extensive experience in human biomonitoring and environmental epidemiology, analytical methods for biomarker analysis, exposure and effect biomarker development, including metabolomics, exposure assessment of emerging contaminants.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the supervision of ProfessorsAdrian Covaci andAlexander van Nuijs at the Toxicological Centre for a period of up to 24 months, commencing by 1 st September 2020.
Your responsibilities
Extensive method development and participation in various application projects in the field of i) untargeted and targeted metabolomics; ii) suspect and non-target screening of environmental contaminants in complex matrices (enviromics); iii) structural elucidation of (bio)transformation products of xenobiotics
Explore technical capabilities and applying two-dimensional chromatography coupled to ion mobility and high resolution mass spectrometry (quadrupole-time-of-flight QTOF) in a number of research projects
Operate, maintain and troubleshoot state of the art instrumentation (Agilent Technologies)
Develop and validate LC-HRMS methods to identify endogenous and exogeneous small molecules in biological matrices
Participate in the development of analytical and bioinformatics workflows for non-target analysis by HRMS
Help organize and (co-)supervise work done on high-resolution mass spectrometry for research and services purposes
Help mentor other group members, including undergraduates
Coordination, planning, documentation and execution of analyses
Promote our work at conferences
Contribute to the generation of scientific publications and external funding bids
Cooperate with existing and potential customers to plan, execute, discuss and report on small research projects
Profile and requirements
Hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD in analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry applications in biochemistry, biomedical research, pharmaceutical science or a related area
Have experience and good knowledge with the safe handling and use of LC- HRMS and the preparation of biological samples (cells, tissues and bio- fluids) for MS-based metabolomics/enviromics
Have experience in bioinformatics to process HRMS data for statistical analyses
Have high levels of motivation, good planning, communication and organizational skills
Have the ability to manage conflicting demands and meet deadlines
Ability to work effectively both independently and in team, both on projects and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Possess excellent English communication skills, both written and oral
