  Job Description

  Join a vibrant research program in sensory neuroscience at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. This position is funded by the National Institutes of Health and to continue long-term NIH-supported projects in the laboratory of Dr. Nirupa Chaudhari in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics.   Responsibilities will include initially working with the Principal Investigator (PI) and other lab members to identify and develop an independent research project within the area of PI’s funded research program on chemosensory mechanisms and molecular/functional connectivity, Specifically, projects will involve:

  Molecular-functional definition of gustatory neurons, in particular, the patterns of their stimulus-evoked responses using an in vivo confocal Ca2+ imaging

  Transgenic- and viral-tracing to establish gustatory circuitry by cell type

  The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to be an expert in one or more of the following, and to acquire expertise in additional areas through research projects: neuronal recording and computational methods (electrophysiology or Ca2+ imaging), rodent surgery, molecular genetics, neuroanatomical tracing, in situ hybridization and/or immunostaining.

  The Postdoctoral Associate is also expected to write abstracts and research posters for conferences, draft manuscripts of experimental data for publication, and assist the PI in grant application submissions as requested.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Ph.D. in neuroscience, molecular biology/biophysics or related discipline or M.D. Recent Ph.D. graduates are encouraged to apply. Prefer research experience in neuroscience-related experimental approaches such as cellular imaging /electrophysiology, and evidence of stage-appropriate, strong research productivity. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
