Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Electrochemistry Using Physics Informed Neural Networks

University of Oxford

Description

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Electrochemistry Using Physics Informed Neural Networks to work under the supervision of Professor Richard Compton for a period of 12 months. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing, conducting and publishing their research on the topic of PINNs in Electrochemistry. The aim of the project is to explore the new opportunities offered in this area by PINNs along with developing diverse specific applications whilst overall evolving a critical perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of the approach. The appointee will have the opportunity to develop their own ideas in these areas in the context of electro-analysis and electrochemical methodology in general and in synergy with other Compton Group members.

Find out more about the Compton research group at:

Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry or a related area, (or be close to completion) prior to taking up your appointment. The research requires expertise in the use of both PINNs and Finite Difference Modelling for electrochemical modelling, particularly in voltammetry, and to have written code for these areas and published research papers in good journals on these topics

You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Rodney Porter Building, Sibthorp Rd, off South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU and is available as soon as possible.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Certificates, references and research papers should not be provided at this stage.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday, Monday 13 June 2022. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.

The University of Oxford is a Bronze Athena SWAN holder and the Department of Chemistry is a Silver award holder. Applications are particularly welcome from women, and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
