Postdoc (f/m/d) in Physics on Ultrafast Dynamics of Magnetic Materials
Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin
Description
The Institute for Electronic Structure Dynamics develops experimental techniques and infrastructure for studying dynamics of elemental microscopic processes in novel material systems. At the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II, we operate the Femtoslicing facility, which is a unique station for ultrafast dynamics studies of mostly magnetic materials. This station is used by researchers from all over the world and is a central research instrument for the Colloborative Research Center TRR 227 “Ultrafast Spin Dynamics” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), to which HZB contributes with its own research program. Your task as a postdoc in our group will be the scientific and technical operation of this station, in particular within activities of TRR227.
Your Tasks
You will support our users, mainly from TRR227 in planning and carrying out their experiments at the Femtoslicing Facility and in analyzing the obtained experimental data.
You will participate in HZB research activities on ultrafast magnetisation dynamics using x-ray-based time-resolved methods, also with your own research program.
You will operate, commission, and maintain the instrumentation of the Femtoslicing facility. Furthermore, you will get the chance to further develop it as well.
Your Profile
PhD in the field of experimental physics, preferably on dynamics processes in functional materials
Comprehensive knowledge of magnetism, ultrafast magnetic dynamics, and dynamics of phase transitions
Comprehensive knowledge of operation and use of short-pulse x-ray sources and femtosecond-laser systems for ultrafast magnetic dynamics research
Good knowledge of procedures and processes at BESSY II, in particular those related to user operation
Very good English language skills
Your Benefits at HZB
