The University of Queensland School of Biomedical Sciences is a distinguished centre for teaching and research in the academic disciplines of Anatomy, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathology. The School has more than 40 full-time research and teaching staff and is one of the largest Schools of its type in Australia. It has links to other prestigious research centres on the St Lucia campus including the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), the Institute of Molecular Bioscience (IMB) and the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN). Our diverse research provides an exciting environment for national and international research fellows and higher degree students. It is concerned with advancing the understanding of how cellular mechanisms contribute to the function of the human body in health and disease.

About this opportunity
An opportunity exists for a Senior Research Technician to join the team and provide quality research into understanding the processes that regulate metabolic health in motor neuron disease (MND).
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Undertake research projects with guidance from senior staff into metabolic dynamics in human research participants
Collection, processing, inventory, tracking and/or shipment of human biological samples as per International Conference on Harmonisation-Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) guidelines
Draft reports resulting from these related activities (including surveys, investigations, tests, observations)
This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia's most attractive university campuses, and reports to the Lecturer - Anatomy & Pathology.
Our ideal candidate
Applicants should possess a degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, or Physiology, or completion of an advanced diploma qualification with relevant work experience.
Additionally, you will demonstrate:
Experience with working in a clinical research setting, including phlebotomy
Laboratory research experience
Experience with generating risk assessments and standard operating procedures
Ability to operate under general direction
Interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to present and discuss own research work and contribute to discussion of the work of others
You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases. This may include the COVID-19 vaccination.

What we can offer
This is a part-time fixed term position until 31 December 2022 at HEW Level 5.
The full-time base salary will be in the range $70,796 - $78,852 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $82,832 - $92,257.
