2 Postdoc Positions Available At The Unit For Cell Death And Inflammation (UCDI)
Vlaams Instituut Biotechnologie
The Unit for Cell Death and Inflammation (UCDI) of Prof. Peter Vandenabeele has two vacancies for highly motivated postdoctoral scientists with research experience in autophagy and cell death and inflammation (MLKL project), or cell death, microbiome, immunology, cancer biology (cell death/microbiome/cancer project).
The first project is part of the iBOF ATLANTIS consortium (Autophagy in inflammation and inflammatory disorders, from basic insights to experimental therapy). ATLANTIS brings together scientists from 3 Flemish universities with complementary expertise in the fields of autophagy, cell death, inflammation, angiogenesis, and drug screening/medicinal chemistry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for studying mechanisms of MLKL in cell death and inflammation or beyond. We have performed a crispr/cas suppressor screening on the regulation of MLKL activity and found several nuclear proteins. (“Unraveling necroptotic-independent functions of MLKL in EC homeostasis and EC related diseases through the generation of new MLKL mouse models and cellular drug screening”).
We have developed several transgenic models of cell death induction (apoptosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis) in the gut and want to examine their interaction with microbiome and colon cancer. The project will especially focus on the role of lipid peroxidation following ferroptosis induction or irradiation in the tripartite interaction between cell death, microbiome and colon cancer.
The second project is part of a Foundation Against Cancer research program on the tripartite interaction between cell death, microbiome and colon cancer. In the project, we will collaborate with Prof. Geert Berx, an expert in cancer biology who has developed genetic models for spontaneous colon cancer.
The applicant should be highly motivated and passionate about driving and performing research and associated laboratory tasks and be able to work independently. The person will collaborate with a Ph.D. student and technician to form a small team to increase the impact of the research efforts. The position can be started any time between now and October 1, or later to be discussed.
About the Lab
The VIB-UGent Center for Inflammation Research (IRC) aims at unravelling the mechanisms of immunity and inflammation for better prevention and therapy of human chronic disease. Several high-end core facilities support and improve our research activities: microscopy, flow cytometry, transgenesis, cell culture, recombinant protein technology, single cell. For more information, please visit: https: // www. irc.ugent.be
