About The Research Foundation for SUNY at Binghamton :

The Research Foundation, founded in 1951, exists to serve SUNY and to capitalize on the scope, scale and diversity of SUNY as an engine of New York state's innovation economy. The RF supports nearly $1 billion in SUNY research activity annually, providing sponsored programs administration and commercialization support services to SUNY faculty performing research in numerous disciplines.

The Research Foundation for SUNY is a private not-for-profit corporation that administers externally funded sponsored projects for and on behalf of SUNY. The Research Foundation is a separate employer from SUNY and the State of New York and offers separate compensation and benefit plans.

Job Description:

There is an open postdoctoral position for an enthusiastic and motivated individual in Dr. Eriks Rozner's Lab in the Department of Chemistry at Binghamton University, NY.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for accomplishing Specific Aims of the NIGMS R35 GM130207 project entitled "Chemical Approaches to Control the Function of Regulatory RNAs". The project focuses on synthesis, biophysical studies and biological (cell culture) experiments to test the ability of amide-modified nucleic acid analogues to modulate the structure and function of biologically relevant RNAs. Specific tasks may include (but are not limited to) testing the effect of amide backbone modifications in CRISPR and short interfering RNAs and/or testing the ability of triplex-forming PNAs to modulate the structure and function of non-coding regulatory RNAs. The project involves synthetic organic chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry and biochemistry, and RNA biology to study the activity of amide-modified RNAs and triplex-forming PNAs in live cells. The project is interdisciplinary and involves collaborations with structural biochemists. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also be responsible for supporting these collaborative efforts.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will assume a leading role in a team involving several graduate and undergraduate students and is expected to expand the project on amide-modified nucleic acid analogues in new directions.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, biochemistry or related field and experience working with nucleic acid, peptide or carbohydrate chemistry. Experience with RNA biology and cell culture work will be strong advantages.

Additional Information:

Salary: $50,000.
