Job Description

We are looking for a:

Postdoctoral researcher and Doctoral candidate (2 positions) for a project on: NEW COTTON

The main objective of the New Cotton project is to move towards closed loop material flows in the textile and fashion sector and in this way enhance the circular economy practices in this industrial sector. The project will create an ecosystem around textile/fashion circulation and it aims to demonstrate the textile /fashion circulation in industrial level. Several industry and business partners are involved in this project. The research in Aalto ARTS will focus on ecosystem building between stakeholders, value creation in circular economy and new business thinking through network approach and in circular economy context.

The project is funded by EU special programme for Innovative textiles – reinventing fashion.

Who we are looking for:

Qualified candidates are required to have:

A degree (PhD or DA for post doc applications, MA/M.Sc. for doctoral candidate applications) in design (especially textile/fashion design), engineering (especially textile engineering), business (especially ecosystem understanding) or equivalent discipline.

Proven experience in scientific research work, in group work, in project leading (postdoctoral researcher)

Experience in textile or fashion industry

Understanding of sustainability and circular economy approach in textile and fashion industry and business

Understanding of textile/fashion supply chains, ecosystem building, value creation through ecosystems and new business thinking

Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Candidates with the following additional expertise are strongly preferred:

Collaborative attitude

Leading multidisciplinary projects

Doing research in a multidisciplinary team

Employment periods and contracts:

We prefer to fill the two positions with long-term contracts, initially 10/2020-12/2021. The starting salary levels will follow the university salary model, with 3630 eur/month for a starting post doc and 2420 eur/month for a doctoral candidate. The salary levels will be matched with the candidate’s experience.
