  加拿大麦克马斯特大学食品生物传感博士后招聘

  Postdoctoral Fellow in Food Biosensing

  ·         McMaster University

  ·         Location: Hamilton, Canada

  ·         Job Number: 7066339

  ·         Posting Date: May 20, 2020

  ·         Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

  Job Description

The goal of this project is to develop food wrapping materials that enable consumers to ensure the safety of the wrapped food on the shelf via a simple handheld fluorescence detector device. This will be achieved by incorporating a barcode-type biosensor capable of detecting traces of specific pathogenic strain of bacteria. The barcode biosensor is produced by covalently micropatterning nucleic acid aptazymes (such as RNA-cleaving fluorogenic DNAzyme probes) specific to the target pathogens. The applicant will have access to world class facilities for biointerface engineering and characterization, advanced micro patterning, microfabrication, and electron microscopy. The postdoctoral fellow will work in a diverse and multi-disciplinary team led by Professors Didar at McMaster University (http://didarlab.ca) in collaboration with a multi-national industry partner.

The postdoctoral fellow must hold a PhD in engineering (chemical, mechanical, biomedical, materials or similar) or sciences (chemistry, food sciences or similar) with expertise in more than one of the following disciplines:

  - Surface engineering, functionalization and surface chemistry, biochemistry, functional nucleic acids, biosensing, bioassays, materials science, fabrication processes, point-of-care diagnostics, nanotechnology.

  - Experience in food diagnostics, food microbiology and food biosensing is a plus.

  - Experience with fluorescence-based biosensors and fluorescence scanners is a plus.

The candidate must have exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills, strong verbal communication and written skills and the ability to communicate effectively with participating scientists and engineers to deliver and report on project progress. In addition, strong leadership and management skills, the ability to design, lead and perform projects and the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams are important assets that the candidate must hold.

Specifically, the candidate will: Facilitate the fabrication of the food wrapping materials through multiple surface engineering fabrication processes. Evaluate the effectiveness and performance of the developed devices by performing multiple experiments and provide innovative and creative solutions to improve the design, performance and fabrication processes of the platform. Interested candidates are encouraged to send their CV, a cover letter, research samples, and 3 referees' contact information to Professor Didar at provided email address.

  Start Date: July 2020
