　　We are seeking a highly motivated and creative candidate for a  Post-Doctoral fellowship to join our “Genetics of Cognition”  (https://geco.iit.it/) Research Line at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia,  Neuroscience Area. The supervisor will be Francesco Papaleo  (francesco.papaleo@iit.it).

　　Cognitive and social cognitive impairments represent one of the earlier,  most impairing and incurable symptoms in neurodevelopmental disorders such as  schizophrenia and autism. Despite this, the mechanisms underlying these  behavioral alterations are still poorly understood. This project will focus on  evaluating the cortical circuits subtending the developmental trajectories of  higher order social cognitive functions. To achieve this goal, we will use a  variety of genetically modified models and we will employ a combined approach  strictly linking advanced behavioral outputs (complex social cognitive tasks  including emotion recognition, cooperation, altruism, hierarchy, social reward  etc.) with circuit-level manipulations with in vivo chemo- and opto-genetics, in  vivo miniscopes, in vivo fiberphotometry, and in vivo electrophysiology.

　　The successful candidate will be working in our collaborative and  multidisciplinary research program.

　　The candidate must have published at least a first-author paper and have a  PhD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Statistics, Medicine,  Genetics, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Physics or comparable fields.  Interest and expertise in astrocytes and/or microglia implication in cortical  circuits will be also highly valued.

　　Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required.  Applicants are expected to have a strong research track record.
