  瑞典哥德堡大学博士后职位

  INTRODUCTION

At the Institute of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition, research in several different areas are conducted, such as endocrinology, hematology, gastroenterology, hypertension, respiratory medicine and allergology and clinical nutrition. Research is focused on body composition and energy metabolism. The research is conducted in close cooperation with health care at both the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Mölndal hospital.

Sex hormones affect the immune system, which influences the risk of developing certain diseases. The research group, located at the Krefting Research Centre, focuses on determining how immune responses are influenced by sex hormones during inflammation caused by infection, allergy or autoimmunity.

  SPECIFICSUBJECTDESCRIPTION

Women have increased risk of developing severe asthma as well as serious virus-induced airway inflammation, compared to men. This sex difference can partly be attributed to stronger immune responses from both the innate and the adaptive immune system in the respiratory tract of females. IL-17 producing cells contribute to inflammation development through the recruitment of neutrophils and previous studies in the group have shown that estrogen can affect the function of IL-17 producing cells during experimental autoimmune inflammation. The aim of this project is to identify immunological mechanisms affected by estrogen during severe airway inflammation, with the long-term goal to contribute to the development of improved treatments.

  JOBASSIGNMENTS

The post-doc will work with experimental models of airway inflammation in genetically modified mice to identify how the activation and function of immune responses in lymph nodes and lung are affected by estrogen. Breeding and characterization of transgenic mice, as well as treatment with immunomodulatory substances, are included in the tasks. Immunological, histological and molecular biology methods for analysis of cells and tissues will be used to answer the research questions. In addition, cell isolation and cell culture techniques will be performed. The work also includes writing of grant applications and scientific publications, as well as assistance in supervision of PhD students and other students.

  ELIGIBILITY

To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.

  ASSESSMENT

The ideal candidate should have a PhD with immunological focus and strong scientific productivity. Proficiency in working with in vivo mouse models is a requirement. Experience in immunological experimental methodology is a merit. The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated and able to plan and execute experiments independently as well as in a group. Excellent spoken and written scientific English is a requirement. Great emphasis will be attached to personal characteristics.
