Job Description
The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Postdoctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.
The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned. Familiarity with animal research work, An Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) regulations and compliance.
Maintain and regularly calibrate and service injury device
Producing penetrating traumatic brain injury in rodents, using equipment provided. Maintain animals for duration of the experiment, intracerebral microinjection of cell, culture supernatant, euthanize as per protocol, process tissue for flow cytometry, submit samples for flow cytometry, and organize data.
Maintenance of animal surgery records, Immunosuppression of animals daily via injections, Collaborate with the team of animal care personnel.
Multiple behavioral testing, acquisition and analysis of data.
Prepares research reports and technical papers for presentation at meetings and publishing.
Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories traumatic brain injury research.
Develops advanced analytical models using antibody combinations and flow cytometry and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Assist with training undergraduate students and volunteers as directed by the Principal Investigator.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in a life science field of study or M.D. Experience working with research animals and central nervous system injury models. Skill in preclinical research working with animals, processing and collecting brain tissue, organizing data, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize gaps in working protocols, suggest amendments, analyze, and solve a variety of problems associated with producing animals with injuries, testing therapeutic approaches. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
