  Job Description

  The Department of Medicine - Endo-Diabetes at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This Postdoctoral Associate position will support Dr. Bernal-Mizrachi with his investigations that focus on pancreatic B-cell biology, pancreas development, islet transplantation, AKT targets in pancreatic B-cells, and AKT activating peptides.

  The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Investigate the molecular and cellular biology of how insulin producing cells grow and die and how they adapt to diabetogenic conditions.

  2. Islet culture and maintenance, mouse colony maintenance, dissection and physiological experiments with rodents.

  3. Set-up instruments, material, apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific assays.

  4. Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests.

  5. Designing, performing and analyzing experiments in collaboration with Dr. Ernest Bernal-Mizrachi.

  6. Reviewing relevant scientific literature; preparing written reports of experimental results and keeping detailed laboratory books.

  7. Record and document the collected data and perform analyses by employing provided analytical tools. Prepare manuscripts for publication.

  8. Contribute to decisions on experimental approaches, data analysis strategies and publication strategies.

  9. Weekly implementation of projections, in consultation with Dr. Ernest Bernal-Mizrachi

  10. Assist in solving problems related to equipment and data analysis.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in a life science discipline or M.D. Prefer at least one (1) year relevant work related experience with evidence of tangible contributions to the dissemination of new research information. Strong scientific background in cell biology and diabetes. Must have demonstrated scientific problem solving ability and creativity. Excellent communication skills and publication records. Must be able to work in a highly collaborative manner.
