Job Description
This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher who is passionate about and wants to see their research have direct impact on innovative projects. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Contribute to a multidisciplinary, materials focused research effort; + Participate in technical meetings at the national level; + Responsible for daily experimental research; + Present cutting-edge research at technical conferences; + Collaborate with Sandia's multi-disciplinary environment and span the range from fundamental to applied research: both to publish peer-reviewed scientific articles and aid in the development of technologies transferable to U.S. renewable energy industries where relevant.
Required:
+ PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or a related field; + Laboratory experience in electrochemistry, electrochemical characterization, battery or supercapacitor assembly and/or testing; + Record of independent research, publications and conference presentations; + Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.
Desired:
+ Strong Academic background; + Record of interdisciplinary research collaborations; + Extensive laboratory experience working with a wide range of electrochemical synthesis; + Experience with characterization techniques as well as a strong background in laboratory-scale battery assembly and testing; + Technical experience and a proven publication record in the area of battery testing, ideally related to lithium ion batteries; + Technical experience and a proven publication record in the area of battery testing, ideally related to zinc-based batteries; + Knowledgeable about adapting electrochemical testing procedures and materials to accommodate new technical developments; + Familiarity with and a willingness to explore connections between materials science and electrochemistry; + Technical skills related to programming, data processing, and instrument; + Strong laboratory skills; + Ability to engage and to contribute to multiple programs; + Ability to interact with team members of diverse technical backgrounds; + Desire to conduct independent, focused research; + Candidates should be highly motivated, team-oriented individuals.
Department Description:
The Photovoltaics & Materials Tech Department, part of Sandia's Renewable Energy Technologies Group, conducts research and development and applies real world solutions to increase the viability of sustainable and clean energy systems. Research focuses on solar energy photovoltaics (PV), materials chemistry, and device integration for energy generation, energy efficiency, and carbon management. We apply PV and materials research to the following areas: PV cell technologies including Si, CdTe and CIGS thin films, and emerging technologies (i.e., perovskites), advanced PV module designs (i.e., bifacial, split cells conformable), concentrating solar power, hydrogen production, and batteries for grid and device storage. We work in partnership throughout Sandia and with industry, academia, and other national labs in research for the Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office: Solar Energy Technology Office, Office of Electricity, the Department of Defense; and Sandia's Laboratory Directed Research and Development program.
