Job Description
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION Starting on or after NOVEMBER 1, 2019 to study mechanism of microenvironment-cancer cell interactions in lymphomas and their therapeutic vulnerabilities, Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University.
The Cerchietti Lab in the Department of Medicine, Hematology and Oncology Division at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM), Cornell University (New York City Manhattan campus) is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral fellow for translational research in lymphoma biology and therapeutics. We are an established lab at WCM studying how microenvironmental, immune cells, metabolic and epigenetic heterogeneity interact and evolve with genetic of cancer cells and how this influences cancer progression and therapy success or failure. The ideal candidate will have research laboratory experience in pre-clinical mouse models of disease and molecular and cellular biology techniques including flow-cytometry, PCR, immunoblotting, cell transfection and tissue culture. Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral fellow will conduct molecular and cellular research experiments with human and mouse specimens, 3D organoid cultures, biological and therapeutic research in mouse lymphoma models, preparation of grants and research reports and will contribute to lab maintenance and organization.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out tissue culture, biochemical, molecular and cell biology assays including DNA/RNA extraction, purification and analysis, cell populations purification and isolation, flow-cytometry analysis, cell transfection and infection, mouse work including colony supervision and therapeutics.
Contribute to the development and implementation of lab protocols and organizational frameworks to create efficient lab workflows.
Help with day-to-day lab functions (e.g. instrument maintenance and reagent preparation).
Present and discuss experimental findings and plans in meetings with the Principal Investigator and research group.
Help ensure general lab safety standards.
Supervision and training of technical personnel as required.
Preparation of research reports and grants
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and job-related experience. Degrees in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Medicine or related field.
Experience in a cell and molecular research laboratory, particularly with cancer models.
Experience with tissue culture. Experience with organoids and primary cultures are a plus.
Experience with mouse models. Experience with cancer xenografts is a plus.
Knowledge of / experience with standard lab assays including viability/proliferation assays, immunoblotting, PCR, ELISA, microscopy and flow-cytometry,
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Scientists wishing to join our research team will find that the cancer research community of WCM is dynamic, diverse and supportive with opportunities for collaboration and learning.
Applications should consist of a one-page cover letter and a CV including publication record, brief descriptions of previous research accomplishments and techniques, and the name and contact information for one reference sent to Dr. Leandro Cerchietti.
Informal inquires are welcome.
Housing through WCM is available.
