The Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is recruiting for a postdoctoral position in the lab of Dr. Maragkakis. The lab is interested to discover the mechanistic basis for RNA regulation and mRNA decay in health and disease and to bridge the gap between genetics and therapeutics. Projects in the lab follow data-driven approaches, are highly integrative and employ wet and computational approaches to extract mechanistic insight for biological systems. Of particular interest to the lab is the crosstalk between RNA regulatory processes including miRNAs, RNA binding processes and mRNA decay. Your role will be to lead, develop and apply new protocols and analyses to study gene expression, translation and decay using novel technologies such as nanopore sequencing and direct RNA sequencing (dRNA-Seq). Anticipated methodologies include development of transcriptome-wide approaches including ribosome profiling (Ribo-Seq) and crosslinking and immunoprecipitation of RNA binding proteins coupled with sequencing (CLIP-Seq). The appointed postdoctoral fellow will work side-by-side with computational biologists and will have opportunities to train on bioinformatics.

You have:

·         PhD in biology, biochemistry or related discipline

·         No more than two years of postdoctoral experience

·         Solid experience in RNA biology, high throughput sequencing and relevant experimental protocols

·         Research background evidenced by a strong publication record

·         Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
