What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to work both independently and in a team environment on various aspects of hardware-software performance prediction of algorithms. A primary goal is to develop accurate, scalable simulation models for performance prediction of various science algorithms running on next generation computing hardware. The simulation models and simulation based analysis of science algorithms will directly benefit LANL's scientific and national-security missions.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research to develop scalable Parallel Discrete Event Simulation (PDES) based models for both hardware and software components of modern high performance computing environments, develop theoretical, algorithmic, and simulation tools for use within the framework of LANL’s open source Simian engine, and Performance Prediction Toolkit (PPT) communicate research results through reports, presentations, and peer- reviewed publications.
LANL has a history of ground-breaking achievements in scientific computing, discrete event simulations, and hardware-software co-design. You will have the opportunity to work with internationally recognized experts in the field.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Substantial research experience in algorithm performance prediction, discrete event simulation and/or hardware-software co-simulation
Demonstrated research ability, as evidenced by publications, reports, presentations, awards, etc.
Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by publications and a cogent cover letter
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
Desired Skills:
Experience with computational hardware performance analysis
Programming experience with C, C++, Python or Lua, and demonstrated software engineering skills; or/and relevant industry experience
Familiarity with a discrete event parallel simulation engines and related tools: ROSS, LANL Simian engine, LANL-PPT framework etc
In depth knowledge of scalable parallel algorithms, including MPI, threads, OpenMP, etc
Working knowledge of scientific computing and numerical methods, graphical modeling, machine learning/deep learning, and hardware-software codesign process
Education: PhD in related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.
Notes to Applicants:
To apply, please use the “apply now” button below. Please include a curriculum vitæ with a publication list—preferably with citation counts—and a detailed cover letter (guideline: 1–2 pages) that describes your research interests and qualifications and addresses how your qualifications meet the job requirements. You should provide the names of three people who can serve as references for your abilities.
The position has a flexible starting date.
Strong candidates may be eligible for a Laboratory fellowship. See https: // www. lanl.gov/careers/career-options/postdoctoral-research/postdoc- program/postdoc-appointment-types.php for details.
