  美国劳伦斯·伯克利国家实验室城市含水气候博士后研究员

Berkeley Lab’s Climate & Ecosystems Sciences Division (CESD) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) invites applications for a Hydro-Climate Postdoctoral Scholar to join a new project on process-based urban hydro-climate modeling with applications in flood risk management and ground water recharge in cities.  Our research will support climate adaptation planning in cities while advancing basic scientific understanding of the physical processes that drive urban hydrology and micro-climates. This position provides an excellent opportunity to work with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team in CESD. Berkeley Lab is a renowned center of scientific expertise in many facets of climate-related fundamental and applied science.

  What You Will Do:

  • Parameterize WRF-Hydro for an urban domain which includes working with ArcGIS as well as DEM (digital elevation model), DSM (digital surface model), building footprint, and meteorological forcing datasets to prepare the input files for WRF-Hydro (experience with WRF-Hydro is desired but not required).

  • Conduct WRF-Hydro (offline: doesn’t require running WRF) simulations. Offline WRF-Hydro consists of typical terrestrial hydrological modeling components.

  • Evaluate model performance using a variety of observations and analytical approaches.

  • Author technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles.

  • Produce and deliver oral and written presentations of scientific results.

  • Work collaboratively in a large professional and intellectual multidisciplinary research teams and communities.

  • Successfully contribute to an active intellectual environment.

  Additional Responsibilities as needed:

  • Conduct simulations of urban climate using a regional climate model (WRF) coupled to an urban canopy model (UCM) in coordination with a team of building energy modelers (EnergyPlus).

  What Is Required:

  • Recent Ph.D. in hydrology, water resources, atmospheric science, physics, applied mathematics, environmental engineering science, or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydrologic processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive analyses making use of different subsets of simulations, evaluation datasets, and advanced analysis techniques.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with one or more programming languages (especially Python and/or Fortran).

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communications skills for presentation of research.

  • Expertise in terrestrial hydrological processes such as surface runoff, channel flow, lake/reservoir flow, and sub-surface flow as well as advanced spatial data analysis.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of terrestrial hydrologic modeling.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Spatial data analysis (ArcGIS).

  • Advanced model diagnostics and evaluation techniques.

  • Ability to work in an integrated team environment.

  Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • State-of-the-science regional climate models, particularly WRF, WRF-UCM, or WRF-Hydro.

  • Urban canopy models (single layer UCM).

  • The implications of land-atmosphere interactions for regional climate.

  • Experience with regional scale atmospheric modeling and land-atmosphere interactions.

The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.

  Notes:

  • This is a full time, 1 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 4 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

  • Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates.

  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.

  • Work will be primarily performed at: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
