Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Stemcell)Job Description

Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW

Job Description

The Department of Dermatology at Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral research scientist with expertise in tissue engineering, stem cell biology, iPSC differentiation and 3D tissue modeling to join our group.

The open position offers an exciting opportunity to develop tissue chips that model human inflammatory skin diseases, including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and alopecia areata. 3D skin models will include keratinocytes and fibroblasts, skin appendages such as hair follicles, immune cells, vasculature and skin microbiome. The candidate will also participate in active collaborations as part of the NCATS Tissue Chip Consortium. Tissue chips provide a controlled environment to accurately recapitulate skin physiological responses to drug treatment. In these studies, we will also recreate gene-environment interactions, using Crispr technology to modify gene dosage of known disease-associated variants in patient-specific iPSC for skin inflammatory diseases to model a Clinical Trial on a Chip. These inflammatory skin disease models will be used to validate skin physiologic responses to known drugs that target disease relevant pathways, and to perform high throughput screens for new compounds.

Prospective applicants should have a Ph.D., MD/PhD, MD or equivalent degree with relevant experience in tissue engineering, stem cell biology, iPSC generation and 3D tissue modeling. Prior experience in biomedical engineering, microfabrication, immunology, skin biology, human genetics and computational biology is preferred. Experience in processing of clinical tissue samples and culture of primary human cells, high throughput screening, microfluidics, RNAseq and computational analysis, confocal microscopy, Crispr gene modification and 3D printing would be advantageous. Candidates will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary collaborations including engineers, biologists, clinicians and supervision of technical staff. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and must be able to function independently, think critically and creatively, and be technically innovative, as well as participating as part of a dynamic team.
