　　The Pitman Lab in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is focused on innovative nerve regeneration research investigating axon guidance and vocal fold proprioception with the goal of treating vocal fold paralysis.

　　Two positions are available on an NIH funded project that aims to identify factors influencing axonal pathfinding to the intrinsic laryngeal muscles during development, characterize how they differ from those expressed during nerve regeneration in the mature animal and then use this knowledge to manipulate path finding to encourage normal reinnervation after nerve injury.

　　We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Scientist or Associate Research Scientist with PhD in Neuroscience or related field. Strong English writing skills and background in molecular biology techniques are mandatory. At least 1-2 years of experience with the use of rodents and background knowledge of the field is desirable.

　　Responsibilities:

　　·       Carrying out the activities related to the maintenance of rat and mice colonies?

　　·       Assisting in surgeries performed to rats and mice?

　　·       Performing IP injections, and tissue dissection?

　　·       Sectioning of tissue samples using a cryostat?

　　·       Performing a variety of techniques of molecular biology independent of direct supervision including immunohistochemistry, “in situ” hybridization, qRT-PCR, or Western Blots?

　　·       Carrying out tissue and organotopic culture of rat embryological neural tissue?

　　·       Performing genetic modification of rat neuron expression with different vectors?

　　·       Performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory, research project or work unit

　　·       Quantitatively analyzing and summarizing research data sets utilizing statistical methods.
