  Job Description

  The Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoctoral Associate will need to be able to function independently; to design and perform routine and complex laboratory experiments, and will receive mentorship from the Principal Investigator.

  The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  Perform complex laboratory assignments, including the planning and conducting of projects related to defining human tumor biology using biochemical, molecular biological and mouse modeling approaches. Design and perform experiments in research laboratory.

  Prepares and maintains culture media reagents.

  Culture Cells

  Maintain an organized detailed lab notebook.

  Present data in laboratory meetings and other venues.

  Perform complex and routine molecular biology procedures including flow cytometry analysis, PCR, RT-PCR, QT-PCR, Southern, Northern and Western blotting, DNA/RNA extraction, recombinant protein isolation and purification, transfection, microscopy and immunohistochemical staining of tissue sections.

  Coordinate and carry out shipments of laboratory reagents.

  Performs experiments under the direction of researchers using established protocols/methods (including some basic tissue culture and protein biochemical assays).

  Perform complex laboratory assignments, including planning and conducting of projects related to cell culture and molecular biology.

  Aids scientists with experiments and may perform some experiments or some parts of experiments.

  Keeps records, use computers and computerized equipment for research, and may assist with analysis of research data.

  Maintains lab supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.

  Cleans, sanitizes, maintains and operates various scientific apparatus/lab space as needed.

  Performs various editorial duties and works closely with research members to provide proofreading for manuscripts and grant proposals as well as writing support for lab protocols.

  Processes, organizes and summarizes data. Reports experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or power point applications or program platforms.

  Solve problems in scientific and technical execution, interpret experimental data and maintain accurate records. May need to develop, adapt and implement new lab procedures.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in a closely related field of scientific study or M.D. Good computer skills. Excellent skills in English (both verbal and written) required. Be able to follow instructions, work independently under the guidance of the Principle Investigator. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
